(INTERNATIONAL) MUDANSA- On November 24th, the international peace organization HWPL and the Timor-Leste Press Council (TLPC) marked a significant step towards promoting peace journalism and enhancing public awareness of peace by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The ceremony was held at the ‘Golden Star Restaurant’ in Dili, Timor-Leste.

The MOU was drafted with provisions to form a peace press network to propagate a culture of peace through the media and provide peace journalism education to journalists. These initiatives are designed to contribute to the enduring peace of Timor-Leste. The joint HWPL peace journalist education program, conducted in collaboration with TLPC, includes modules on peace values education, aligning with HWPL’s broader peace education content. The education program targets Timorese journalists, intending to instill peace values within them and explore ways in which the media can actively contribute to peace through responsible journalism. The overarching goal is to elevate public awareness of peace in Timor-Leste and foster a culture of peace.

Moving forward, HWPL will continue to actively collaborate with the Timorese media to unearth peace journalists and conduct peace journalism education, and also plans to promote peace activities, fostering a culture of accurate reporting and peace through ongoing partnerships. Currently engaged in diverse initiatives in Timor-Leste, including drawing peace murals, establishing religious coalition offices, and conducting peace education, HWPL works in collaboration with various members of the local community to realize peace
