(International) Mudansa- Mr. Dominic Jermey CVO OBE, who has been appointed His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia and non-resident Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, presented his credentials to the President of Timor-Leste, His Excellency (HE) President José Ramos-Horta on 25 August 2023 in Dili, Timor-Leste.
Dominic was Director General of the conservation science NGO, the Zoological Society of London, from 2017-2022. Amongst other roles, Dominic was Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Afghanistan from 2016 to 2017, and to the United Arab Emirates from 2010-2014.
British Ambassador to Timor-Leste Dominic Jermey said:
“I am delighted to return to Timor-Leste, a country and people whose journey I have followed closely since being posted to Dili over 20 years ago. It is a great privilege and honour for me to present my credentials to the President of Timor-Leste, my dear friend His Excellency Mr José Ramos-Horta. Timor-Leste matters greatly to the UK, and as Dialogue Partner to ASEAN, we fully support Timor-Leste’s smooth accession into the regional bloc.
Our partnership with Timor-Leste continues to grow, focused on economic development, health and nutrition, climate adaptation and education. The UK’s flagship scholarship programme, Chevening, has attracted many talented students to study for their Master’s Degrees at universities in the UK, and now boasts over 50 alumni. The window for application opens again in September, and I would encourage more students to apply, so that they can learn new skills and gain experience in the UK to help develop and build Timor-Leste’s future.
I very much look forward to playing my own role, as Non-Resident British Ambassador to Timor-Leste, in further strengthening the strong bilateral relationship. I’m looking forward to coming back to this beautiful country soon, and having the chance renew old acquaintances and establish new connections between our two countries”.
