“FITUN” Party Establishes Structure and Prepares for National Congre

(Díli), fatuhada 18/05/2026-In preparation for the National Congress of the “FITUN” Party, Dr. Abílio Araújo gave an important message about the struggle for independence, solidarity and responsibility to continue serving the people and the nation.

‎In his intervention, Dr. Abílio Araújo recalls the time of national struggle and his relationship with the late Nikolau Lobato during the time of FRETILIN control. He said that during that time they always had good communication and worked together for the interest of the people of Timor-Leste.

‎“I have always known the late Nikolau Lobato as a man who gave his blood and his whole life for the liberation struggle of Timor-Leste,” said Dr. Abílio Araújo at a press conference recently.

He also explained that during the resistance period until the referendum, there was a great contribution from the Timorese community in Australia that helped organize the structure of the RDTL and support the independence movement.

‎”The people liberated the country until today, the people will stand up to speak and determine their own future,” he said

‎He also asked the members and supporters of the “FITUN” Party to strengthen the organization and value the history of the national struggle, because independence is not only a political symbol, but must bring sovereignty in all areas.

‎”Independence is sovereignty. Political sovereignty, economic sovereignty and cultural sovereignty,” he said.

In this opportunity, he also reported about his experience when he returned to Timor and saw directly the suffering of the people in the neighborhoods and mountains, he said this situation is a great motivation to continue fighting for the poor. While in the atmosphere of preparation for the National Congress of the “FITUN”  Party, the “FITUN”  Party went with enthusiasm and a spirit of unity, with the hope that this congress could become an important step to strengthen the party structure and bring it closer to the people.
