(Dili) Balide – At a time when technology has become an important part of everyday life, an initiative by young Timorese has brought new changes to the education sector. Starting from a small dream in Lospalos, now it has been realized through an online platform called www.kursutimor.com, which provides learning opportunities for everyone in Timor-Leste.
According to the CEO of Kursu Timor, Victor Monteiro, the idea came about in 2021, when he was living in Indonesia to study for a bachelor’s degree. At that time, he did not intend to open a training center like a conventional classroom, but wanted to create a platform that could link education with technology, so that students could learn anywhere and at any time.
“I used to want to learn when I was young in Lospalos, but the opportunity is limited. Now I want others not to feel like I felt before,” said CEO of Kursu Timor, Victor Monteiro calmly, in the Media Mudansa studio recently.
Victor informed that, Timor course provides courses such as Accounting, English and information technology (IT). The classes are produced by a local team in Dili, and most of the instructors are Timorese who have completed their studies at home and abroad. The platform allows students to register online, make payments through bank or e-money, and learn on their own time and without a fixed schedule.
“Unlike online courses that use Zoom or Google Meeting, Kursu Timor creates its own website system that students can access directly. Thus, they can return to class at any time to understand better” Said victor.
He informed that although facing internet challenges in the municipalities, but he remains optimistic that change can not happen in one day, but need to start from now. The interest of students in rural areas like Soibada is proof that the need to learn online is really great.
“Timor courses are not to replace schools or universities, but to complete them. When students learn theory in the classroom, they can deepen it at home through this digital platform” he said.
He added that the main objective of this initiative is to help people acquire skills to improve their lives and contribute to society, because education is the key to changing lives and bringing development to the country.
“If we invest in knowledge, we invest in the future of Timor-Leste,” he concluded.
From a dream in the early days, now Timor Course has become a new way for youth and society as a whole to learn, develop themselves and prepare for a better future with mobile phones or tablets in hand and the will to learn inside.
